James E. Crocker, 53, a lifelong Wakefield resident, died Saturday, May 30 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Nahant on December 6, 1955 he was the son of the late Frank L. and Jane A. (Dee) Crocker. Mr. Crocker was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1973. Mr. Crocker was a member of the Wakefield Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight. He was a bartender at the Mt. Vernon Restaurant in Somerville. Mr. Crocker is survived by his sister Jane Collins of Nahant and his two brothers; Robert Crocker of Reading and William Crocker of Wakefield. He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews. Mr. Crocker was the longtime companion of Ann Marie Bordinaro. Service Information: A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11am in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant Rd., Nahant. Relatives and friends may call at the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Ave, Wakefield on Tuesday from 5-8pm.3 |

Dennis W. Collins, 49; Vietnam War veteran. Dennis W. Collins, 49, of Spring Road, died Saturday in Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Jane (Crocker) Collins, with whom he shared 19 years of marriage. Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Donovan) Collins. He attended Wakefield High and lived there until moving to Nahant 10 years ago. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Collins was employed in the lobster and seafood industries for many years. He was most recently employed at Mortillaro Lobster Company in Gloucester. He enjoyed fishing and the ocean. Mr. Collins leaves a daughter, Katherine E. Collins, a seventh-grade student at Swampscott Middle School; two sons, Daniel P. Collins, a ninth-grade student at Swampscott High School and Timothy M. Collins, a fourth-grade student at Johnson School, Nahant; two brothers, Michael P. Collins of Kezar Falls, Maine and William H. Collins of Tewksbury; two sisters, Jane Serpa of Plaistow, N.H. and Elizabeth A. Powers of Everett; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Daniel Collins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11a.m. in the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.3 |

WILLIAM MERRILL DEAD. FUNERAL WILL BE HELD HERE TODAY. WAS FORMERLY A CITIZEN OF LEAVENWORTH BUT HAD MOVED TO INDEPENDENCE, MO -- WAS WELL KNOWN -- STILL HELD PROPERTY HERE -- LEAVES A LARGE FAMILY -- WAS 86 YEARS OLD. William Merrill, a former citizen of this city, died at his home in Independence, Mo., yesterday morning at 5 o'clock from the effects of heart trouble. At the time of his death he was 86 years old and was well known here. William Merrill was born in Winstead, Conn. He came to this city in the early seventies and lived here 24 years. While in Leavenworth he acquired considerable property and still owns several valuable residences on Fifth avenue. He also owned property in Independence where he moved something over a year ago. Mr. Merrill was prominent in temperance and church work while in Leavenworth. During his residence in this city, he was one of the officers in the Presbyterian church. He leaves a widow and five children, daughters, all of whom are now married. One of these daughters, Mrs. N. A. Parker, who now lives on Market street. The body of Mr. Merrill will arrive from Independence on the 11:30 train today. It will be taken to the Presbyterian church and remain there until 2 o'clock, when Rev. Dr. Page will conduct religious services. The body will be buried in the family lot at Mount Muncie cemetery. Friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.8 |
