The Early Families of Newfield, ME books says he is just "probably" a son of David, but Samuel's death record states that his parents were David York and Mary Tweed.

He was a farmer living on land worth $300 in the 1850 census of Naples, Maine with his wife and seven children. His father David was also living with them.
